Using a range of materials such as colored pencils, collage, watercolor, gouache and acrylic, explore different approaches to still life through a mixture of wet and dry media. Experiment with unconventional methods to translate what you see into a unique composition. Each week will focus on introducing new mediums into our toolbox, with an emphasis on experimentation. Topics will include color, texture, perspective, abstraction vs. representation, and more.
Classes will include warm-up exercises, discussion of still life works by other artists, instructor demonstrations, and time to work on a still life composition with feedback on individual progress.___Carey Lin is a visual artist based in San Francisco, California. Her studio practice spans painting, drawing, installation, and Stairwell’s, a collaborative social practice project. Lin earned her M.F.A. at the University of Chicago and her B.A. from New College of Florida. Her work has been exhibited at Incline Gallery, Root Division, ampersand international arts, Aggregate Space Gallery, tmoro projects, Interface Gallery, Tartine Bakery, Hyde Park Art Center, Samsøn Projects, DOVA Temporary, and more. She has completed artist residencies at Opossum House (OR), the Wassaic Project (NY), Vermont Studio Center, and Irving Street Projects in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset.
