In this course, we will explore methods of chance, randomness, and indeterminacy as a means of discovery. Through drawing and sculpture, we will explore processes that rifle out artifice and upend the known to transform and reset, re-present or renew. Class time will be devoted to studio work, lecture, discussion, and demonstration. Personal projects will be guided and inspired by purposeless play and chance exercises. There will be two assignments and daily exercises.

Ignacio Rojas was born in Chile in 1978 migrated to Australia in 2001 and moved to San Francisco in 2016. He has a double background in fine arts and sociology and has taught drawing and painting for many years back in Australia and is currently teaching in San Francisco.
He has exhibited in more than thirty solo and group exhibitions as well as being finalist in numerous art competitions in Australia. Ignacio has also worked in socially inclusive artistic programs and in different universities as a research assistant and project officer including at RMIT University, Victoria University and The University of Melbourne.
Ignacio loves art and celebrating cultural diversity is at the centre of his practice!
