Using a range of materials such as colored pencil, collage, watercolor, gouache and acrylic, learn still life basics and create mixed-media pieces based on colorful, dynamic compositions. Topics will include color mixing, layering, texture, and perspective. Students will be encouraged to explore the still life format through conventional and non-conventional means while creating small-to-mid scale pieces that experiment with abstraction and representation. Work from a new, unique still life arrangement each week.

Carey Lin is a visual artist based in San Francisco, California. Her studio practice spans painting, drawing, installation, and Stairwell’s, a collaborative social practice project. Lin earned her M.F.A. at the University of Chicago and her B.A. from New College of Florida. Her work has been exhibited at Root Division, ampersand international arts, Aggregate Space Gallery, tmoro projects, Interface Gallery, Tartine Bakery, Hyde Park Art Center, Samsøn Projects, DOVA Temporary, and more. She has recently completed artist residencies at Opossum House (OR), the Wassaic Project (NY), Vermont Studio Center, and Irving Street Projects in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset.
