LOST + FOUND: RECREATING A REMEMBERED OBJECT
5 sessions >> Thursday, September 7–October 5
7:30–10:30 pm, Studio 14, $245 ($10 materials fee included)
No prerequisite. Makers from disciplines inside and outside the visual arts are welcome.
In this sculpture class, you will recreate a missing object from memory. We will explore different materials and methods of fabrication, determined by each particular object. These could include casting, paper mache, and assemblage. The class grows from my own interest in stand-ins and decoys and the ways we animate certain objects with meaning.
Beth Krebs’ work celebrates the earnest, heroic, and usually botched human efforts at transcendence. She explores this subject, with humor and empathy, by transforming physical spaces and by making sculptural objects, videos and drawings. A graduate of the MFA program at Rutgers University, Beth has exhibited her work in New York, San Francisco and abroad, and has been awarded residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Jentel, the Bemis Center, and Willapa Bay. She had her second solo show at Station Independent Projects (NYC) in 2016. She is a recipient of a Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA grant, and in 2012 was awarded a grant to fund an installation in Germany. She lives and works in Oakland. https://www.bethkrebs.com
