Presenting videos and installations, alongside archival materials, the exhibition Here We Live, reveals strategies through which communities cope with the cultural tensions linked to the transformations of the places they live. The exhibition features work by Halil Altindere, Jeamin Cha, Angelica Mesiti, Jerome Reyes, Norman Therkelson, and Yu Guo.
Pheng Cheah is Professor of Rhetoric and Geography and the Chair of the Center for Southeast Asia Studies at UC Berkeley. He has published extensively on the theory and practice of cosmopolitanism. His current research focuses on world literature and on globalization and human rights. He is the author of publications including Spectral Nationality: Passages of Freedom from Kant to Postcolonial Literatures of Liberation (Columbia University Press, 2003); Inhuman Conditions: On Cosmopolitanism and Human Rights (Harvard University Press, 2006) and What is a World? On Postcolonial Literature as World Literature.
Jerome Reyes is an artist, researcher, and educator who addresses conceptual territories of architecture and cultural difference to examine the instability of our contemporary environment. Through his practice, Reyes is invested in how projects affect participants already living complex lives as producers, organizers, researchers, and active locals in multi-vocal, intergenerational communities.
