Executive Order: Poetic Erasures
Exhibition Dates: April 27-June 9, 2018
Opening Reception: Friday, April 27, 2018, 6-8 p.m.
C+M Café, 401 Van Ness, Lobby
The San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries is pleased to present an exhibition of work by first and second generation artists from Balboa High School that highlights their own perspective on immigration. Students created poems by redacting President Trump’s fourth Executive Order No. 13768 – ‘Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States’ a text that states among other thing that shielding undocumented immigrants harms America. Under the guidance of writer in residence Ingrid Rojas Contreras and artist Miguel Arzabe students retained words from the Executive Order that expressed their personal views and feelings about immigration, and imagine a government that shields and values the lives and contributions of immigrants.
This exhibition is organized as part of Sanctuary City, a multiyear series of exhibitions and public programs featuring artists exploring San Francisco’s status as a Sanctuary City.
