Ethel Revita: Ethereal Material Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
January 23, 2025, 6-8pm

Creativity Explored is honored to present Ethereal Material, Ethel Revita's first solo exhibition. This cohesive body of work reflects her keen sense of pattern, strong understanding of geometric form and her intuitive approach to color.

With past bodies of work, Revita ventured into mediums such as ceramics, textiles, and papier-mache, often depicting animals and repeating characters inhabiting heavily patterned environments. The nineteen works in Ethereal Material, all completed over the last four years, illustrate a deeper appreciation for the dynamic interplay of color and pattern that have come to define Revita's recent practice.

This body of work has an unmistakable movement and energy - Revita carefully composes each piece without letting herself be limited by the rigidity of form. The signature vibration between the intricate geometric and organic motifs is heightened by her natural gravitation towards pastels or colors mixed with gray. Each work, much like the artist herself, emits complexity filled with quiet confidence.

Ethel Revita (b. 1971 San Felipe, Zambales, Philippines) has been a studio artist and community member at Creativity Explored since 1994. She was featured in Into the Brightness: Artists from Creativity Explored, Creative Growth & NIAD (2023-24) at the Oakland Museum of California and Mode Brut (2021-22) at the Museum of Craft and Design. Revita has participated in many group exhibitions at the organization's gallery, including but not limited to Tabula Rasa (2016), Tree of Life (2015), and Art from the Fire (2002). Revita's artwork was displayed on the digital screen at the top of the Salesforce Tower as part of their Midnight Artist Series in 2022 and in 2023, she participated in a Recology Artist Residency and the resulting exhibition Become Like Life Golden. Dedicated to her art practice, Revita often starts working immediately upon arriving in the Creativity Explored studio, routinely attending four days a week.
