Esther Traugot: Kintsugi and Natural Systems

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Chandra Cerrito Contemporary (see times)
Chandra Cerrito Contemporary is pleased to announce our two upcoming exhibitions, Kintsugi and Natural Systems, on view May 4–June 28, 2018. In her solo exhibition, Esther Traugot looks to the Japanese practice of Kintsugi by applying ‘golden repairs’ to natural specimens including an elk antler, deer skeleton, moth, and goose egg shells. The artist yokes, softens and venerates broken and dismissed natural objects, delicately repairing or blanketing them with tiny, golden crochet stitches. Her interventions reveal both the essence and presence of the object. This is Traugot’s third solo exhibition a Chandra Cerrito Contemporary.

The exhibition Natural Systems features a group of artists who marvel upon the secret inner-workings of nature, featuring: mushrooms, lichens, crystals, tree rings, spider webs and cellular-like structures; revealing the architecture of plants, creatures and minerals using a variety of curious materials and practices. Exhibiting artists include: Mari Andrews, Linda Armstrong, Mary Button Durell, Liz Hickok, Laura Splan, Claudia Tennyson and Gail Wight.

We will host an opening reception on Friday, May 4th from 6 to 8 pm with a walk-through with the artists at 6:15 pm and an artist talk on Thursday, May 24th from 6 to 7:30 pm moderated by Patricia Watts.
