Erin and Paulette’s Art Show:
By Erin Jane Nelson and Paulette Nichols
June 28 – July 20, 2014

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 28th, 7-10pm
Special Event: Still Life Live Live: Sunday, July 13th, 1-4pm.
Erin Jane Nelson will create still lifes in the gallery while simultaneously streaming them live at https://www.stilllifelive.com.
*Gallery Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4pm
*Please note we will be closed on July 5th and 6th for the holiday weekend

Erin Jane Nelson works across many mediums including photography, ceramics, and sculpture, often referencing craft and forms of amateur art making. Paulette Nichols creates plein air paintings of the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland that become performative and expanded in their life on the internet (through her blog, Facebook, and eBay pages). While both artists have very different approaches and histories in regards to art-making, they are both interested in humor, failure, institutional critique, and the aesthetics of amateurism as devices to elevate otherwise formal, lyrical works.

As part of the exhibition, on July 13th from 1-4pm, Erin will present Still Life Live Live - Still lifes created live in the gallery while simultaneously live streamed at https://www.stilllifelive.com.

About the Artists
Erin Jane Nelson is an artist and writer living in Oakland California. She studied at The Cooper Union School of Art and has recently shown work at Jancar Jones Gallery (Los Angeles), Interstate Projects (Brooklyn), The Lab (San Francisco), and Important Projects (Oakland). http://erinjanenelson.com/.

Paulette Nichols was born in Stockton, CA, and has been painting plein air in oil for a little over a year after having taken 2 semesters of painting classes at SFSU and some life drawing workshops in San Francisco and some life drawing classes at the Piedmont Adult School. She lives and works in Oakland. She had her first solo show 2 years ago at Smokey's Tangle in Oakland, and prior to that, she focused her creative energy on writing songs and performing them. http://paulettethehumanbeing.blogspot.com/.

About the Gallery
Royal NoneSuch Gallery is an artist-run alternative art and event space located in the Temescal district of Oakland, California. The gallery is co-directed by Elizabeth Bernstein, Carey Lin, Hillary Wiedemann, Susannah Magers, and Zoë Taleporos. We are dedicated to creating community around art-based experiences that are thought provoking and conceptually rigorous, while also being accessible and fun. Through a framework of monthly exhibitions and related programs, we strive to maintain a dynamic schedule in which the gallery is continuously reinvented to reflect the spirit and process of an artist, specific program series, or collaboration. The Royal NoneSuch Gallery is not motivated by commercial interests, but instead by working with other artists and creators to facilitate experimentation and social engagement through monthly exhibitions and events. We encourage artists to translate their studio practice, not only into a month long installation, but into a social context that allows the public to actively connect with the central concepts and ideas of the exhibition through opportunities for participation. We take active responsibility for being part of an emerging art scene in Oakland by encouraging an atmosphere of creative risk taking from artists and participation from the community, aiming always for public experiences that are inclusive, innovative, and educational. Visitors to Royal NoneSuch can expect to see, hear, learn, experiment, and participate.
