“[A] mix of familiarity and the unknown…†- DownBeat
When you’ve been accompanying Branford Marsalis on bass for the better part of twenty years, you’re bound to become adept at facilitating a collective vision, but as a bandleader Eric Revis branches out with an improvisational touch and thematically broad compositions. His music is akin to his bass tone: deep, rich and woody with a flawless execution, no doubt honed by those many years with Marsalis and others, such as Kurt Rosenwinkel and McCoy Tyner. Revis’ playing is personal and distinctive while his skills as a band leader and composer are equally profound and inspiring. Rounding out his quartet are Darius Jones – alto saxophone; Bill McHenry – tenor saxophone and Ted Poor– drums.
