SEE EVENT DETAILS
Eric Essix MOVE Trio - Live at Yoshi's. Southern Contemporary Jazz, Soul, R&B Guitarist in a rare West Coast appearance!

“Exciting Southern Jazz, blues inflected with crisp melodic lines that certainly put him on a par with Chuck Loeb and George Benson. A sheer force of undeniable infectiousness “. So says AllMusic’s Jonathan Widran in describing Contemporary Jazz Guitar recording artist Eric Essix of Birmingham, Alabama.

Eric has been creating acclaimed jazz since his 1998 CD Small Talk was released by Warner’s famed jazz label Zebra Records. The radio hit single For Real stayed in the Top 5 Smooth Jazz Charts for 25 weeks. Eric’s breezy Shuttlesworth Drive from the 2009 Birmingham CD stayed at #1 on the Smoothjazz.com charts for 7 consecutive weeks. And his soaring Foot Soldiers from the 2013 CD Evolution went to #1 on the Smoothjazz.com chart and still remains in airplay rotation on Sirius XM Smooth Jazz Channel Watercolors. He has released over 20 CD’s during his recording career.

Never satisfied with the status quo, in 2015 Eric joined forces with two musical all-stars to go to Muscle Shoals and record the CD Eric Essix MOVE Trio .

The MOVE Trio features expressive keyboardist Kelvin Wooten who serves as the “soul” of the group. His ability to play complex multiple parts on the keys in real time excites audiences everywhere the group performs. Kelvin is also a Grammy nominated producer and creator of hits for the likes of Mary J Blige and Jill Scott and Anthony Hamilton. He has worked in the studio or performed live with Jill Scott, Lalah Hathaway, Raphael Saadiq, Earth Wind & Fire, Tony!Toni!Tone!, Bee Gees, Angie Stone and many more.

Drummer James “PJ” Spraggins, the “heartbeat” of the Eric Essix MOVE Trio, is a composer, producer and bandleader in his own right. PJ has released three of his own CD’s and has played with such luminaries as Ronnie Laws, Stevie Wonder, Martha Reeves, Kirk Whalum, Alex Bugnon, and Marcus Miller.

Eric, aside from his own prolific recording and performing career, has also played his signature red Gibson guitar as a sideman for some of the top names in Contemporary Jazz including Jeff Lorber, Mindy Abair, Boney James, Eric Darius, Peter White, and Bob Baldwin. He is a graduate of the famed Berklee College of Music and is the youngest person ever inducted to the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame.

Together, the Eric Essix MOVE Trio creates an exquisite blend of Jazz, Soul, R&B, and Gospel.

“Eric’s great guitar captures the natural essence of a southern groove master”… Paula Edelstein, AllMusic

“An extraordinarily diverse guitarist”.. Jonathan Widran, AllMusic.
