Born in Havana, Cuba in 1944, Enrique de la Uz started photography during a two year stay in Moscow, where film and cameras were of bad quality, but affordable. He immediately fell in love with the art, and upon returning to Havana, apprenticed with Swiss photographer Luc Chessex. It was in the studio workshop of painter, designer and photographer Raúl Martínez that he learned not only technique, but also the fact that photography is never subjective and could be used to give a very personal statement about reality. The ability of the camera to transform an instant of time into an image has always held a strange fascination over him. So in 1968 he left his studies in the field of architecture to start a career as a photographer.
