Emily's Army is an Oakland pop-rock flashback to the 1960s. They sing catchy harmonies in the vein of early Beatles Please Please Me era and belt out some great bubble gum rock tunes. When they formed in 2011, they were young teenagers. (They literally were inspired to start the band by the film School of Rock) and their awkward teenager sense is all over the lyrics with songs about falling in love for the first time. Drummer Joey Armstrong is the son of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, although, Emily’s Army seem to take more influence from bands like the Monkees and the Beach Boys than the Clash.
