With a voice that falls somewhere between Adele, Amy Winehouse and Fiona Apple, Santa Cruz ex-pat Emily Moldy sings with a lot of soul. But her music isn't exactly R&B-it's more of a hybrid of folk, pop and Americana, with a dash of electronic wizardry. She's a great singer-songwriter who's equally competent on the acoustic guitar and the piano. She's living in Oakland now, with a relentless DIY can-do spirit, a full-length scheduled for later this summer, and plans for world domination on the horizon. This is a chance to see the talented singer in a small intimate setting before she has overthrown the planet. (Aaron Carnes)
