Ohio Indie Rockers Retrace Hitchhiking Past on West Coast Tour
Emily & the Complexes Hit the Road to Promote Debut Album ‘Styrofoam Plate Blues’
Columbus, OH – Several years after Emily & the Complexes’ frontman Tyler Verhagen hitchhiked his way to the Pacific coast, the Ohio singer-songwriter is headed West again -- this time accompanied by the full-band setup he established in the Buckeye State’s capital city.
Foregoing middle-class comfort and the college lifestyle, Cincinnati native Verhagen set out for adventure, thumbing his way from truck stop to truck stop, sleeping on benches and beaches alike, and busking on street corners to collect strangers’ change for his next meal. Now, several years later, he is retracing the path on which he wrote many of the songs that fill Emily & the Complexes’ debut full-length album, Styrofoam Plate Blues. Armed with a batch of new songs and the experience that comes with the band’s extensive touring of the midwest and East Coast, Verhagan aims to bring his folk-inspired garage rock sound to a new audience on the historic American frontier.
Alternative Press - “Rocks like Bright Eyes, Cheap Girls, Manchester Orchestra.”
Independent Clauses - “This is a rock band that wants you to know what they’re saying.”
Sterling Monkey - “Styrofoam Plate Blues is one of the most painfully honest albums, ever."
