Ellis, Mammina, Tysse: Forget About It - The Music of Allison Krauss

SEE EVENT DETAILS

Zoe Ellis

Zoe Ellis has been singing all her life. Starting in elementary school with light opera, she moved on to gospel, R & B, soul, hip-hop, and house music. She added a capella improvisation to her repertoire when she joined SoVoSo and Keith Terry’s Slammin All-Body Band. Alongside her brother, jazz saxophonist Dave Ellis, she leads Zadell (Zoe and Dave Ellis), which showcases her original compositions, highlighting both the power and emotion of her voice, and its softer, soul-stirring side. Together they recorded Zoe Ellis: Live at Anna's Jazz Island. She is currently co-lead of Darryl Anders~AgapéSoul and holds a chair with Linda Tillery’s Cultural Heritage Choir

Jenna Mammina

A picture may paint a thousand words, but a word can tell the whole story. “Exquisite!” says author/radio host Ben Fong-Torres, former senior editor of Rolling Stone Magazine and perennial king of what’s hot and what’s not. He’s talking about pop/jazz vocalist/songwriter Jenna Mammina and he is not alone. Hailing from Michigan, home to luminary vocal legends like Aretha Franklin, Betty Carter, and her mentor, Abbey Lincoln, Jenna’s mixed heritage household and neighborhood surrounded her with a vast array of diverse culture and music. Her parents, Ben and Grace, both accomplished musicians in their own right, nurtured all four siblings to cultivate their own breed of musical talent, culminating in the creation of their own independent record label Mamma Grace Records. And the rest is HERstory...

Leah Tysse

Leah Tysse has played for audiences from The Monterey Blues Festival to Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee and her songs have been featured on radio across the country and in Europe. Since arriving in California in 1998, Leah has also been a featured soloist at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco and can be seen singing in the film "The Pursuit of Happyness" with Will Smith, filmed partially at Glide Memorial.

Her first album "Real Good Fire" has met great success, receiving songwriting accolades from Billboard for Best R&B/Blues Song of 2008. Her follow-up album "Love Again", is a soulful blend of infectious grooves and lyrical songwritiing, featuring an all-star line-up of musicians including co/producer Mike Blankenship (Lauryn Hill, Ledisi, Sheila E.).
