Comprised of Elizabeth Ziman, Danny Molad and Peter Lalish , Elizabeth & the Catapult literally sprung into the New York City music scene in early 2004. Bound by their love of Tom Waits, David Byrne, Coney Island and Magnolia cupcakes, this unsigned local trio managed to build a steady New York following via their "jazzy, buoyant baroque pop songs"(The Village Voice). Soon after finishing their debut EP in Danny's bedroom in 2005, they landed appearances on PRI's studio 360, Fair game with Faith Salie, and WNYC's Soundcheck. They were also on NPR's list of "10 albums to look out for in 2007", one of Spin.com's "Artist to Watch", and have been repeatedly featured in Billboard Magazine.
One explanation for the band's eccentric sound is Elizabeth's musical upbringing. Trained as a classical pianist, she drew most of her inspiration from her love of Debussy, Ravel and Bach.
