Elderbrook plays guitar, bass, piano and drums started developing his production skills while studying at Bath Spa University. In his dorm room Elderbrook, real name Alex Kotz, began experimenting with movie samples and using his voice to add a bounce to his demos. 'I started creating hip hop beats and singing over them until it evolved into more of an electronic sound. I keep it minimal - when a song is broken down it leaves more room for intricacies which can be fun'.
As he honed in on his production skills the artists he grew up listening to started to become an influence in his music also. 'My inspirations come from Jazz vocalists like Sam Cooke and Billie Holiday as well as people like Blaze Foley and Woody Guthrie'.
