Dear Dystopian’s, this holiday season =DYSTOPIA= brings you a year-end 2015 finale for the Drum and Bass history books – DYSTOPIA’S 64TH SHOW. Jungle Santa is very happy to announce that Dystopia has gone HARD every fourth Friday (And 2nd Friday’s at Foundation since July 2014) of the month at Lounge 3411 in Oakland, California. To honor Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, The Dark Arts and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we have a very special show for ALL of you…We plan to deck the halls with boughs of holly, blaze Yule, rinse Drum & Bass in merry measure, fast away the old year passing and dance joyous altogether…Oh yeah, how can I forget donning gay apparel.

We encourage ALL of our guests to wear their ugliest sweaters to this event because it will be an “UGLY SWEATER PARTY.” Moreover, even if you don’t own an ugly sweater…Be festive and rock a sweater anyways. We know that there is a multitude of Ugly Sweater events in the Bay Area now but recognize, that Dystopia was one of the first crews in the late night music community doing this 5 years ago. <3

★ KINETIK (SHELTER | EXIT WOUNDS | BADNB SF) ★

Soundcloud:
http://www.soundcloud.com/kinetik66

Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/shelter.sf

Kinetik has been laying down energetic beats that stay true to his moniker for over a decade. The San Francisco native was introduced to electronic music in high school by way of local radio shows and he quickly realized that he wanted more than to be on the receiving end of the sound. After attending undergrounds and raves for a few years, Kinetik began frequenting the weekly and monthly drum and bass events in San Francisco, substituting mix tapes for business cards. Since then he has become a regular face on the drum & bass DJ circuit throughout the bay area and held residencies with Silent, Tech Support, Phuturo, Reflex, Jungle Lounge and currently, Shelter. Originally recognized for his harder, techier leanings musically, Kinetik’s repertoire has expanded so that his sets effortlessly traverse numerous spectrums of drum & bass. What’s consistent is a driving groove, smooth transitions (both mixing and stylistic) and a respect for classics that’s well served by his adherence to playing vinyl.

★ RUSSELL G (JUNGLISTS UNITED | FAMILY ROOM) ★

As one of the first Drum & Bass DJs in northern California, Russell G was a key member in building the North Bay’s underground electronic dance music scene. With an affinity for industrial music, and backgrounds in the punk, and metal scenes in the early years of his life, he quickly discovered that he identified more with the aggressive and intense nature UK Breakbeat Hardcore coming out of England in the early 1990’s. He, along with a few friends, threw their first underground “break-in” parties in 1992, and the following year taught himself to mix on a pair of Technics 1200 turntables. As the early Hardcore sound diverged, he followed the path of the emerging sound of Jungle music, but because the SF Bay area scene lacked any venues to showcase Jungle in those seminal years, Russell spent most of his time in his bedroom honing his skills as a DJ until 1995 when the first Jungle nights started appearing at bars like The Top in San Francisco.

As a part of the first wave of Drum & Bass DJs on the West Coast, he threw the first monthly party at 1015 Folsom to feature Drum & Bass in 1996 called Rhythm. Throughout the mid 90’s and into the 2000’s, Russell played at nearly every underground venue and club The San Francisco Bay Area had to offer, for such collectives as Lightseed, Harmony, B.A.S.S. Kru, North Bay Collective (NBC) and even formed his own crew by the name of Dancehall Militia.

After taking a much-needed step back to attend school 2003, he reemerged on the scene in 2011 with a diverse sound and dance floor sensibility. His ability to take a crowded dance floor on a journey and his affinity for playing a wide range of styles has earned him numerous fans and won over new converts to the sound of Drum & Bass. Currently he holds down Drum & Bass in the Northbay with residencies at Basslov3 and Family Room. His mix of old school knowledge and an arsenal of current hard hitting Drum & Bass tracks makes him an essential part of today’s Bay Area scene as much as yesterday’s.

★ ELIXIR (TUNEDEF | MANSELL INC | TOUCH BASS) ★

Soundcloud:

Having gone to raves and parties since the early 2000s, Drum n Bass has always had a close spot in Elixer's heart. "The syncopated rhythms and dynamic range of styles keep it exciting with a plethora of sounds to layer in a mix. I first started buying vinyl at Skillz/Reverb back in 2004 and have been partying at clubs and undergrounds ever since. Had loads of good times at Compression, Trauma, Shelter, Dystopia and Stamina. I've been producing and mixing for years and now I'm venturing out into the DJ world to bring my sounds into the scene!"
