The Tri-Valley's own professional opera company, Livermore Valley Opera (LVOpera), continues its thrilling 33rd season with Mozart's Don Giovanni sung in Italian with English supertitles, at the Bankhead Theater on March 1, the first of four performances that run through March 9. New this season, the Saturday performance on March 8 will be a 2:00 pm matinee instead of an evening performance. Mozart's operatic masterpiece, arguably the greatest tragicomedy ever written, revolves around Don Giovanni's amorous escapades. Accompanied by his skeptical servant Leporello, the libertine pursues rich and poor alike until his wanton ways finally lead to his dramatic downfall. Filled with some of his most famous music and much-beloved arias, Mozart's Don Giovanni offers an unforgettable experience. Erie Mills, LVOpera's Artistic Director, notes "Many consider this Mozart's greatest opera. The drama is compelling and the music sublime. This cast will make it all look easy- it is not! For me it's one of my "desert island" operas." Returning Stage Director Robert Herriot leads a stellar cast and all performances will be expertly accompanied by the Livermore Valley Opera Orchestra, conducted by Music Director, Alexander Katsman. Featured artists include baritone Titus Muzi III in his LVOpera and role debut as Don Giovanni; soprano Meryl Dominguez, making her LVOpera debut as Donna Anna; soprano Cara Gabrielson, making her LVOpera debut as Donna Elvira; and Joseph Calzada making his LVOpera debut as Masetto. Returning to the the LVOpera stage are: bass-baritone Samuel Weiser as Leporello; soprano Phoebe Chee in the role of Zerlina; tenor David Walton playing the role of Don Ottavio; and bass Kirk Eichelberger playing the role of El Commendatore.
