DJ Marlboro is one of the originators of the funk carioca, also known as baile funk, which is a mixture of Miami bass with Brazilian rhythm and rhyme. His first LP, Funk Brasil (1989), marks the beginning of the Funk Carioca Movement, initially with versions of hip-hop and freestyle hits from American artists, especially the 2 Live Crew ("Do Wah Diddy" became "Melô da Mulher Feia" and "One and One" became "Melô dos Números"), sung in Portuguese. Today it’s a global favorite of many infamous DJs and producers, like Diplo, MIA, and Fat Boy Slim.
Marlboro is making an exclusive California show at our second edition of Aldeia Halloween, which will gather the best locals DJs of baile funk, DJ Kblo (Kblo Presents), Kush Arora (Surya Dub), Double B, and Antonio Guedes (BRAZA!), featuring the best of current hits and old-school vibes.
