A live performance by singer/songwriter and SJSU alum Dirk Hamilton will accompany Camera 3 Entertainment's exclusive September 26 showing of the film FOLK, a new documentary examining the veteran singer-songwriter's rocky career.
Dirk Hamilton's rare local appearance further includes a Q&A session with audience members at the conclusion of director Sara Terry's latest film. Equal parts music documentary and road trip movie, FOLK captures three touring, struggling folk music acts at dramatically different stages of life and career.
These performers range from young hopefuls to the veteran Hamilton, who was playing for pay before his costars were born. Old friends, clippings of rave reviews and longtime Rolling Stone writer Steve Pond recall a career that blasted off in the early 80s with New Dylan hype and a prestigious Elektra Records deal, only to crash land even before the recording contract ran its course.
