Join us for Dina Maccabee's album release party for The World is in the Work, at SF cultural institution ATA - an intimate and unique artistic space in which to experience this occasion.
Dina will present her entire new solo album for viola, voice, and processing, live, with video projections contributed by an eclectic group of far flung collaborators. This gathering celebrates her CD release for the Bay Area, where she played with groups like Real Vocal String Quartet, Ramon & Jessica, and many others.
The World is in the Work was recorded entirely in one day in April, 2017. With nods to maverick string players like Henry Flynt, Laurie Anderson, John Cale, and Arthur Russell, this album also shows the influence of her many years playing folk, pop, and classical music. Preview a track here: https://dinamaccabee.bandcamp.com/track/garbage.
Jeremy Rourke creates stop-motion films made from vintage photographs, paint, leaves, paper and other ephemera and scores these animations during live performances with acoustic instrumentation and his own voice. A self-taught animator eschewing digital effects for hands-on techniques, he is currently producing an experimental, animated documentary about ATA with the help of the Creative Work Fund. Rourke’s films have screened in Atlanta, Chicago, and Portland, Oregon, and internationally at the Budapest Short International Film Festival and the Wimbledon International Short Film Festival in England.
Jeremy will begin the night with something different. Right after sunset, he will show some old films outside of ATA. Then we will hear a few of his very own folk-pop songs, with his homemade stop-motion films playing simultaneously.
Join us Friday August 25th for a magical night of one-of-a-kind music, film, and surprises.
