James Dewitt Yancey, better known as J Dilla or Jay Dee, was unquestionably one of the most important producers in hip hop, but also music in general, when his life was tragically cut short due to a rare blood disease. While his life may have ended that day, his legacy lives on still, gaining momentum with each passing year as his influence now spreads beyond any single genre, a true testament to the diverse group of lives he touched with his music.
