He is known for pioneering the surf music style in the late 1950's and early 1960's, influencing a whole generation of legendary guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. He is famous for such songs as "Pipeline" and "Misirlou", which was popularized in the Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction. In addition to his innovations in the surf rock style, Dick Dale is also notable for his contributions to rock guitar technique, such as single-note staccato picking.
