ABOUT THE WORKSHOPdetour dance company artists, guest facilitators, and participants come together with the goal of deepening our creative + performance practices. We focus on embodied voice, physicality/movement, text, devising, the ensemble, presence, risk, and play. Most importantly, these workshops are an opportunity for collective research and experimentation. We are inviting you to workshop WITH our company.
ABOUT DETOUR DANCEdetour dance is a San Francisco-based performance company that was founded in 2009 by Directors Eric Garcia and Kat Cole. Our mission is to create and present year-round queer arts programs that activates audiences, promotes the visibility of queer people of color, and builds community. detour dance works towards this impact by the following programs: an annual performance season, the annual San Francisco Tiny Dance Film Festival, and detour dance’s monthly workshop series.
detour dance is led by multi-racial queer artists. Our vision is to generate work that is rooted in personal/collective storytelling, social justice, critical dialogue, and the empowerment of QPOC. The ensemble-based company collaboratively devises new works that places equal emphasis on movement, voice, design, music and text.
