For people of faith, chronic depression is not only psychologically and emotionally challenging, but spiritually trying as well. This class puts depression in an existential, spiritual, and transpersonal context. We acknowledge these dimensions of the depressive experience and explore options for integrating them into an overall approach for managing life with recurrent low moods. We explore the use of spiritual companionship or guidance as an adjunct or alternative to traditional therapy, and examine the impact of an array of spiritual practices on stress and depression management.
While we put life with low moods into this special context, it is not at the expense of understanding depression as an experience that has physical, psychological, and social dimensions that may need tending to achieve balance and health.
This workshop is taught by a lay Buddhist and is open to people of all faiths and spiritual traditions.
An hour before class starts, we make a simple & casual supper of vegetable soup available to students. Coffee, tea, natural beverages, local mountain spring water, and fresh fruit are also provided.
Class Location - please follow the directions that we provide in our confirmation email, as the last few turns of online maps are incorrect:
