DEEP GROOVES ft GE-OLOGY

SEE EVENT DETAILS
thePeople Oakland present: DEEP GROOVES ~ wsg. GE-OLOGY (Sounds Familiar / NYC)

In today's burgeoning culture of opportunism and ambition, you seldom meet an individual with exceptional abilities and a lengthy history of achievement without it being worn on their sleeve. Thus, the enigmatic virtuoso known as GE-OLOGY is a rare find indeed. Just when you think you've figured him out, you come to realize that the task of connecting his myriad of anomalous dots is an intricate process. This masterful music producer, skilled DJ, and equally gifted visual artist has been acclaimed internationally for over two decades, however he remains somewhat of a mystery. Now after a 4 year hiatus, he's on course to take us beyond our expectations again with an arsenal of new music (and a well-anticipated LP scheduled for 2015).

Throughout the career of this Baltimore born, 80's New York City bred Renaissance man, he has produced songs for a list of notable recording artists including Mos Def (aka Yasiin Bey), Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, De La Soul, Yukimi Nagano (from the band Little Dragon), Vinia Mojica, Jem (including "They," which peaked at #6 on the Billboard UK singles chart), and even a young Tupac Shakur. Still, surprising to most, his first 2 record releases were dance music collaborations...one with The Basement Boys and DJ Spen in 1993, and later, a collaboration with Neal Conway (of Crystal Waters "Gypsy Woman" and Ultra Naté fame) that same year.
Parallel to his immense range as a composer, the depth of his talents as a visual artist are no less extraordinary. Although widely recognized for his classic 90's hip-hop record cover art (including the legendary Mos Def "Body Rock" single) and a multitude of illustrations for a variety of publications such as Vibe, the Source and Russell Simmon's One World Magazine...the vast spectrum of his work as an artist is a conversation of its own, with a world-class resumé to follow.

This multi-dimensional talent, and former member of NYC's "I Love Vinyl" DJ collective, is also well known for rocking dance floors world-wide...from Europe to Asia and beyond. DJing since the age of 11 and collecting records well over the last three decades (almost four), he digs deep, weaving diverse music genres that coalesce to inspire soulful movement on the dance floor. When asked to define his style, he responded, "DJing for a dance audience is similar to experiencing a well-written novel that takes us on a spiritual journey of unforeseen change. Each chapter leads us somewhere unexpected that's intrinsically related to where we first began...yet at the same time, uniquely alien from it. To me, that's the thrill of the ride."

GEO’s international gig schedule has been crazy this year. The man is on FIRE! thePeople are grateful that GE was able to fit us in for this very special night of music. He has a TON of new music ready to be released on some LEGENDARY labels! Keep your ears on him, amazing sounds coming from this man. We look forward to gathering the family this Saturday in honor of our good friend and top deejay, GE-OLOGY.
