"In a world so divided there is no greater form of activism than to stand for connection rather than disconnection."

This event is in collaboration with Sidewalk Talk and founder and psychotherapist Traci Ruble. See more here: www.sidewalk-talk.org
"We teach and practice listening in public spaces to heal our lonely and disconnected world. Every moment of genuine connection adds to our wellness."
This training and exercise is useful especially for empaths who want to learn to hold space for healing.

--------
The afternoon will be broken down into 4 chunks:
1. Brief connection exercise to drop into yourselves and one another
2. 60-80 minutes of deep listening training with Traci Ruble, psychotherapist and founder of Sidewalk Talk. This includes risk assessment, how to connect without absorbing emotions, and practicing with each other.
3. 1-2hrs of going into the streets of San Francisco with chairs and signs to listen to strangers.
4. Gather to debrief, connect with each other, and eat. This part is important because the entire experience is known to be powerful and electrifying!
Please bring extra layers of clothes to wear!
-----
AGENDA:
3pm-4:30pm - Connect and Workshop in Classroom
4:30pm-6pm - Listening - Sidewalk Talk
6pm-7pm - Reconnect, Debrief
------
In 2014, two San Francisco therapists shared a vision: to help heal that which divides us through the fine art of skilled listening.
They gathered 26 colleagues, practiced listening skills and came up with a curriculum and model for listening on the sidewalks together.
The Listeners set up chairs and signs, offering to listen to any passerby who wanted to be seen and heard.
Today Sidewalk Talk has over 4000 volunteers world-wide and has chapters in over 40 cities around the world.
-------
Traci Ruble is a psychotherapist, couples therapist and a master at conflict resolution. As the founder of Sidewalk Talk, she has also been listening on sidewalks for three years, and 25 years of mental health training. She has been featured in Forbes, BBC, NBC, and more.
