Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a two-person exhibition with Deborah Bell and Heather Patterson.
"I continually gather, repurpose and arrange. I enjoy weaving together seemingly different or awkward companions." - Deborah Bell
Deborah Bell has a strong connection to nature, where the seasonal shifts and ever-changing skies of her surrounding environment provide a foundation for her art. After drawing up an "inner terrain", Bell collages layers of paint, pencil marks and found papers in what Bell describes as a ritual act. As she creates, Bell seeks to reveal what was once hidden, where marks become galaxies and lines record a moment in time.
"The intertwining of the geometric and organic forms becomes an important part of my process." - Heather Patterson
Focused on documenting the natural landscape, Heather Patterson's work captures the topography of the environment. Patterson layers paint, ink, pigment, and acrylic mediums in the form of geographic patterns to make a new series of abstracted terrain. In her work, a sense of micro vs macro evolves, where the contrast and flow of these overlapping elements reflects her personal relationship with nature. Heather strives to share a message of environmentalism and the need to preserve Earth's ever-changing climate through her work.
