SEE EVENT DETAILS

Dean Wareham

Dean Wareham returns to perform the Galaxie 500 classic On Fire. Dean will be backed by a 4-piece band including Britta Phillips (bass), Jason Quever (guitar) and Roger Brogan (drums).

“An all-time Top Five album. . . it’s lost none of its power” — Pitchfork

Dean Wareham was the singer and guitarist in Galaxie 500 (1987-1991). Born in New Zealand, he moved with his family to New York City in 1977. It was here, in high school, that he met fu-ture bandmates Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang. In 1987, based in Boston, they founded Galaxie 500, who released three albums that have only grown in stature, Today, On Fire and This Is Our Music, all produced by Kramer and released on the Rough Trade label.

“Galaxie 500 were the ultimate cult group,” wrote Bookforum, “a band who set the stage for the indie scene of the 21st Century.”

Wareham’s next band Luna recorded seven albums for Elektra and Beggar’s Banquet (including Penthouse, on Rolling Stone’s list of best albums of the 90s), followed by three albums as Dean & Britta (with his wife Britta Phillips), and two simply as Dean Wareham. His latest release, Dean Wareham Vs. Cheval Sombre, features covers of western songs sung by Dean and by fel-low New York songwriter Cheval Sombre.
