Rapper Sean #Basslife Blak has been all over San Jose recently, putting hashtags on stuff whether it needs it or not. Blak is of course behind #DayJam, an afternoon, indie rap fest with a roster of local underground talent. One notable name on the list: Dave Dub, longtime local rapper, who moves fluidly between the weird and the raw. On his recent album The Treatment he mostly confined himself to a vintage drum machine and synthesizer. With production that sparse he needs to hold his own on the mic-which he does. But then there's also a new release, "Spacewalking," with chopped samples of what sounds like The Doors played through a couple pillows. It's no less engaging. (Stephen Layton)
