SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Modern Eden (see times)
Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce Daydreams and Nightmares from Beyond Toyland, the solo debut of sculpture artist, Sheri DeBow.

Sheri DeBow creates emotive and intricate dolls and sculptures from clay and various mixed media materials. Every detail is handmade, never using molds or taking shortcuts, each piece is a unique result of meticulous creation. As a student, she worked and studied under sculptor Franco Vianello, Phil Cornelius, Michael Maday, Professor Sakaguchi, Richard Carter and Sensei Kusakabe. She now works as a full-time artist and mom to five children in California’s Napa Valley. Sheri DeBow’s work has been featured twice on the cover of "Art Doll Quarterly" and her dolls have received accolades and honors across the globe.

Exhibition Statement from the Artist: “In my new collection, ‘Daydreams and Nightmares From Beyond Toyland’, I've expanded my body of work beyond dolls to include monsters and creatures of childhood nightmares. Their appearance reveals the importance of making friends with your inner monsters as they sometimes aren't as frightening as they appear.

I've applied several new techniques to my sculptures in this series; one is the use of gold and silver leafing. The precious metals represent my idea of the treasured and golden, but also the fragile nature of life. My subjects are wide eyed, somber, innocent, youthful, precocious, and mischievous and represent the continual exploration of the carefree nature and wonder of childhood.”

The opening reception will be held at Modern Eden Gallery on Saturday, February 15th from 6-10pm. Featured solo artist, Sheri DeBow will be in attendance at the reception. The exhibition will be on display through March 1, 2014 and is free and open to the public.
