Tenor saxophonist David Murray traverses a diverse swath of jazz terrain, from conventional to cutting-edge. With one foot firmly planted in the jazz tradition and the other in the avant-garde, Murray is best known for his long association with The World Saxophone Quartet and an incredibly prolific string of musical collaborations that have included the likes of Max Roach, Jerry Garcia, Cassandra Wilson, Lester Bowie, and more recently, vocalists Macy Gray and Gregory Porter. His recent recording, Be My Monster Love, features a new repertoire and the debut of his Infinity Quartet featuring Marc Cary on piano; Jaribu Shahid on bass; and Nasheet Waits on drums.
