Two great bands in a special double bill!
Feeling a tinge of envy towards the traditional “organ trio” format of B3 organ, guitar, and drums, Oakland bassist staple Adam Lowdermilk decided to form his own version of the formation. There was no question who to call: Left hand key-bass master Kevin Wong (Lyrics Born, Jazz Mafia) and gospel chops whizz James Small (Fantastic Negrito, Sal’s Greenhouse). Rooted in Jazz, Boogaloo, and Soul, the three Bay Area rising stars no doubt bring the Funk, whilst maintaining a wide dynamic range and musical sensitivity not often associated with the high energy, power trio aesthetic.
Southern California pianist and composer Green has distinguished himself with his beautifully articulated touch and melodically charged sensibility, infusing jazz with Brazilian, blues, and classical elements. Signed as an Origin recording artist in 2014, Green’s growing portfolio of vibrant sounds has garnered multiple awards and captured the attention of critics around the world. His work has been featured in the San Diego Union Tribune, the Boston Globe, DownBeat Magazine, Jazziz, and Public Radio International. His trio, including bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm, are one of the most lyrical jazz groups on the West Coast and were a featured group at this year’s San Jose Jazz Summer Festival.
