Dancing Switch: Press Here to Connect Workshop

SEE EVENT DETAILS
INFO: text 415-335-6384.$25 TIX: https://dancingswitchworkshopmay12.eventbrite.comWhether you're a Switch, a Lead or a Follow in Fusion Partner Dancing, this Starter Workshop in Switch skills will broaden your overall dance skills and allow you to better sink into and work as a team with every dance partner at every Fusion event. Dancing Switch means being constantly ready to both invite and receive roletrades during a song AND having the skillset in-hand to meet all those moments/transitions with finesse. Being a Switch on the dancefloor (rather than a Lead or Follow) means having a Switch Skillset and a Switch Mindset in every dance: ready to share, yield and initiate in equal measure. In this workshop you'll stop "switching" (an unprepared and clunky dance moment) and start Dancing Switch, whether you use 20 roletrades or none in any one dance duet. This workshop will uptrain all on the differences in tone and mechanics between Lead initiation and Follow interpretation. With evened out Lead/Follow modes, we'll then install a variety of methods to keep both modes available at all times in the mind and body. In addition to universally applicable dance mechanics (what is "clarity" in Lead Initiation and Follow Response), we'll undo some unconscious movement patterns that will unlock access to smooth transitions for Dancing Switch. We'll be installing the Switch skills to pass the ball back and forth (roletrade) with your partner: shifts in limb/torso proprioception and variations you can use within the set of connection points of different embraces. Roletrades will emphasize duet proprioception rather than "arm-ography" (choreographed arm/embrace positions). We will leave the realm of dance-robot-repeating and enter the realm of dance as team puzzle-solving and truly creative, conversational dueting. The workshop will go back and forth between lesson-info and practice periods as we uptrain through 3 phases of acquiring cumulative movement information and gain SwitchMind. There won't be long breaks, so come prepared to pace yourself.BRING: Water bottle, small snacks you can still dance on: there won't be a mealbreak so pace yourself.ATTIRE: Suede/leather sole dance shoes or 2 pairs of socks per person--NO STREET SHOES, Wear pants with give, no big belt buckles or big jewelry, wear shirts that provide full coverage and movement in all directions. TEACHER: Ali Woolwich has been teaching professional and recreational dancers of all ages for 30 years.
