Dance Theatre of San Francisco presents Season 5 | Fall Program

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23, 8 pm

Dance Theatre of San Francisco (DTSF) presents Season 5 | Fall Program featuring world premieres by Artistic Director Dexandro "D" Montalvo and guest choreographers Sandrine Cassini & Angela Dice Nguyen. For it's 2015-16 season, DTSF was the winner of two Isadora Duncan awards: Outstanding Achievement in Re-staging for Artistic Director D Montalvo's re-staging of Robert Moses' Toward September (2009), and for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography, (the Company shared honors with San Francisco Ballet for Liam Scarlett's Fearful Symmetries).

The one weekend performance will include two world premieres by Mr. Montalvo: an untitled solo or duet, in addition to a full company piece entitled Broke(n). This full company piece is an abstract manifestation of the personal trials and tribulations one goes through during the "recovery" process both physically and mentally. The piece was conceptually thought of while Montalvo recovered from major hip surgery in 2016, during a time of uncertainty with healthcare in the US.

In addition to Montalvo's new works, Sandrine Cassini (Paris Opera Ballet, Zurich Ballet, Bejart Ballet) will present a new piece on pointe entitled When the Daylight Didn't Come, as well as a new untitled contemporary work by Angela Dice Nguyen (TheMoveMessenger(s), San Francisco Opera and Robert Moses KIN guest artist). Cassini's new work explores the concept of leaving with a mix of both contemporary and classical music. Nguyen, who is expecting the arrival of her firstborn child this September is setting her new work on the exploration of becoming a new parent, with ideas surrounding curiosity of the unknown.
