This Pre-Easter weekend, we pay tribute to one of the worlds greatest Composers, Song Writers & Recording Artist of all times, CURTIS MAYFIELD; Taking you on a 70's style Hip Trip back to a time when the Vibe was Strong, Black Power was Right On, and Love was the Universal Song.

Hosted by Bay Area blues legend FILLMORE SLIM, featuring percussionist René Escovedo, and The Superfly Band directed by music producer James Earley, with special guest vocalist Codany Holiday performing selections from the Classic "SUPERFLY" soundtrack and more.

FILLMORE SLIM will also be performing songs from his New CD.

CURTIS MAYFIELD was born on June 3, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He met singer Jerry Butler while performing in a church choir in 1956 and joined Butler's band, the Impressions. In 1970, Mayfield embarked on a solo career, with his most memorable project credited as the classic 1972 soundtrack to Superfly. Mayfield was paralyzed during a 1990 stage accident in Brooklyn, New York, but continued to record until his death in 1999. In his four decades in the music business, Mayfield helped bring a unique racial consciousness to popular music and introduced an innovative sound that greatly influenced following generations of musicians.

Fillmore Slim
Best known by his stage name, Fillmore Slim, is a blues vocalist and guitarist with five albums to his credit. During the 1960s and 1970s, he was also a highly renowned pimp in San Francisco, often referred to as "The West Coast Godfather of the Game" and "The Pope of Pimping".

Coming up as a true SF player in the game, Curtis Mayfield and the Superfly sound track has been the most influential LP of my life. Curtis Mayfield lyrics was a like positive refection of a hustlers dream "trying to get over" at a time when "pimpin" to some was a negative thing, and to others a superfly hustle coming up in the ghetto. Before my chosen street profession as a pimp, I was an inspiring blues artist & musician playing in a band called Eddy N & the Blues Slayers. We were influenced by groups like The Impressions & others while developing our own sound working the night clubs of New Orleans.

As fate would have it, my return to music has allowed me another chance at my first real passion performing the Blues with now 5 complete CDs to my credit.

It's is a great honor to pay tribute to Curtis Mayfield, the man, the musical genius, who's has left us with such an inspiring musical legacy which still plays as the back-drop to my life's story. Not only as Fillmore Slim the legendary Pimp, but Fillmore Slim the Blues artist.

Codany Holiday, featured vocalist

Curtis Mayfield style is different from the rest. His Sweet melodies and deep lyrical content has help me to develop my own style as a soul singer with emotional substance. Lots of listeners have compared my sound and current single "Fly Away' to the late Curtis Mayfield sound.
I would study the way he would Send his fans sensual messages, laced with straight game, with a realness that is undeniable. This is what has influenced me the most in becoming an extraordinary singer and songwriter.

James Earley

A multi-platinum producer/songwriter who grew up in Oakland, California. James Earley, also known as Jae-E, is an American multi-platinum producer, instrumentalist and engineer. For the past two decades, Jae-E has produced and worked with some of the most talented artists and icons this industry has seen including David Bowie, Jimmy Iovine, Sylvester Stallone, E-40, MC Hammer, "Marky Mark" Wahlberg, En Vogue, B Angie B, One Voice and others.

MAESTRO CURTIS MAYFIELD and his music meant everything to me. His blending of so many styles of music created a whole new sound. Merging elements of r&b, gospel, soul, blues, jazz, afro-cuban, and funk with classical orchestrations had never been done before so masterfully or consistently. His work throughout the 60's and 70's profoundly changed the sound and direction of the music and entertainment industry.

Even as a child, the soundtrack/score from the ICONIC film SUPERFLY had my undivided attention. I was then inspired as a young musician, to feel free to proudly embrace multiple genres of music, and not feel ashamed of it.Today, with 50 million plus sales to my producer credit, I am honored to celebrate the music of the LEGENDARY and GREAT MASTER CURTIS MAYFIELD!
