Crossing The Line- A comedy showcase featuring comics from across the border
Immigration reform is a hot topic right now in the United States and California has the highest
number of immigrants in America. On May 27th, Doc’s Lab will host an amazing lineup of expat
comedians that will entertain you with their stories from across the border. Our next show will
feature comics that have moved from France, Ireland, Trinidad and Tobago and India!
Featuring Kevin Munroe, Samson Koletkar, Clara Bijl , Abhay Nadkarni and Irish Dave
Kevin Munroe [Trinidad]
Kevin Munroe is a Comedian and Actor based in San Francisco. He began performing standup
comedy after surviving a graduate degree in Computer Science, because while standup has the
same gender imbalance as engineering, at least there's beer. Kevin was 1st Runner Up in
Rooster T. Feathers' 2008 and 2009 Comedy Competitions, won the 2010 Walk The Plank
Comedy Competition and San Jose Improv's 2012 Beat The Heat Comedy Competition. He is a
regular at all the major Bay Area clubs, and has opened/featured for top talent including Tracy
Morgan, Chris Franjola, Paul Mooney, Eddie Pepitone, John Witherspoon, and W.Kamau Bell
Samson Koletkar [India]
Samson Koletkar is the world's only Indian Jewish standup comedian. He has performed his cerebral,
witty, thought-provoking, clean humor in India, Canada & U.S. and has been featured on NBC,
CBS, KRON4 & NPR. He also produces a weekly comedy show at the Washington Inn in
Oakland, CA. Get more details at comedyoakland.com
Clara Bijl [France]
Clara was born in Paris, France, raised in the Alps, attended schools in Germany, Switzerland,
and South Carolina; then one day, she moved to New York City to begin a career in stand-up
comedy. Performing all around the Big Apple and the rest of the country, she became a prolific
writer of cutting, witty, internationally flavored comedy. She was a semifinalist in Comedy
Central’s Laugh Riots competition, she performed in Holland’s “The Comedy Factory TV Show,”
the 2005 and 2006 New York Underground Comedy Festival, the 2008 Detroit International
Comedy Festival; and she wrote for the hit Swiss TV show, “Le Petit Silvant Illustré.”
Abhay Nadkarni[ India]
Abhay Nadkarni moved from South India to South Central Los Angeles in 2005. That experience
scarred him enough to find cathartic comfort in comedy. His act is an eclectic mix of his
experiences as an Indian immigrant living in the US. He recently performed at the Ventura
Comedy Festival and was featured in the best of the fest at the Burbank Comedy Festival in
2014. In January 2015, he was featured as part of SF Sketchfest, San Francisco's comedy
festival.
David Nihill [Ireland]
David was born in Dublin, Ireland. After graduating with a Master’s Degree in Business in 2003,
he moved to San Francisco where he worked for the Irish government helping startups expand
rapidly; he has been involved with startup companies ever since.
He is the Founder of FunnyBizz Conferences, a community conference series helping content
creators tap into the power of storytelling, comedy and improv to create better content. He is also
the Founder of Comedy for a Spinal Cause and the author of the 5 star rated course, 7 Comedy
Habits to be a Funnier Speaker. He has performed standup comedy at California’s leading clubs
including Cobbs, the Comedy Store, the Improv and the Punchline even though he strongly
denies being a comedian and is well aware most people don’t understand his accent. His
learning, taken from one year’s intensive experiments in comedy, performed on someone from the
business community with a huge initial fear of public speaking (ie him!) have been featured
in Inc.,Lifehacker, The Huffington Post, Forbes,Fast Company and became the best selling
book, Do You Talk Funny?
