Creating the L World: Celebrating Kate Kendell and the next generation of queer women activists

Team Q of the United Democratic Club celebrates Kate Kendell, a pioneer in LGBTQ advocacy and former executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Kendell will join the next generation of queer women for a panel discussion on the history and future of the LGBTQ rights movement. San Francisco LGBTQ community leader Lou Fischer will moderate a conversation with three queer women from three generations (Baby Boomer, Gen X, Millennial) who pioneered lesbian rights, currently lead the legal fight and are finding new ways to organize in a digital era. They will also talk about the lesbian experience then and now from their multiple perspectives.Panelists:Kate Kendell — Longtime Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights. A true pioneer for LGBTQ rights. Represents a Baby Boomer perspective.Christine Sun — Legal and Policy Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California. Serves on board of Board of Asian Americans Advancing Justice/Asian Law Caucus. Represents a Gen X perspective.Angelic Williams — Founder of MyUmbrella app and leader of San Francisco chapter of Black Women Talk Tech. She has created digital innovations to empower underrepresented members of the LGBTQ+ community. Represents a Millennial perspective.Moderator:Louise (Lou) Fischer — Former co-chair of Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club and 2009 Emerge California Women’s Democratic Leadership program graduate.About Team Q of United Democratic ClubTeam Q is a committee of the United Democratic Club, San Francisco’s largest democratic club. Team Q aims to give a voice to LGBTQ residents living in all parts of San Francisco. We welcome members who do not have a history of political engagement or connection to a popular neighborhood. We also seek to mentor LGBTQ youth to become tomorrow's leaders. Our programming will focus on how the issues of the day affect the LGBTQ population. We are committed to fighting for full equality for LGBTQ people and fighting against any attempt to undermine the rights gained so far.
