Conversation on Rich & Poor: When a Community Owns Addiction

SEE EVENT DETAILS
RICH & POOR - When Community Owns Their Addiction
Thursday night dinner will focus on the stigma, consequence and status of drug use across class and income. How to get beyond clichés regarding 'enabling' particularly among homeless citizens. We'll discuss local policies and research as well as investigate our own biases and relational responsibilities whether users ourselves or not.
2019 Series : RICH & POOR
These dinners will investigate some of the spiritual, emotional and economic consequences in our lives while living amidst intense wealth disparity in our region.
The hope is to push this conversation beyond systemic blame (not that there isn't enough to go around) and to talk more clearly about individual and collective responsibility, fear, shame, charity and our agency in this whole thing.
It will be sticky, but we think challenging and thoughtful.
We'll be working our way through topics such as drug use, the service class, mental health, tent cities and philanthropy as lenses to contextualize what it means specifically in the Bay Area to be so rich and so poor.

Your ticket will include margaritas, wine, and a seat at the table for conversation over family style dinner.
100% of ticket sales will be donated to support Harm Reduction -
Harm reduction is comprised of a range of public health strategies designed to lessen the negative social and/or physical consequences associated with various human behaviors, both legal and illegal. Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, GLIDE has used harm reduction strategies to staunch the spread of disease and reduce stigma.
We will be joined in conversation by Bill Buehlman, outreach coordinator of Glide's Harm Reduction.

Nopa and Nopalito restaurants, servers and chefs will be donating 100% of their food, beverage, time and service in order to support the conversation and the important work of Harm Reduction.
Ticket prices have intentionally been set well below cost in order to ensure more needed and diverse voices can be at the table. If you are able, and so inclined, please consider making an additional donation to sponsor a ticket and support the important work at Glide Harm Reduction.
Please Note - No one will be turned away from the conversation for lack of funds. Please contact [email protected] in advance for more information.
