A major figure on the global hip-hop scene for 20 years, French-Algerian choreographer Mourad Merzouki has created a dazzling and dramatic fusion of circus acrobatics, martial arts, and virtuoso street dancing. His Lyon-based Compagnie Kafig, which the New York Times called "one of the most innovative troupes on the experimental dance scene," features 11 male Brazilian dancers mixing head-spinning hip-hop and samba, electronic music, and the fiercely beautiful martial art of capoeira.
