Coco is the project of Maia Friedman (The Dirty Projectors), Dan Molad (Lucius), and Oliver Hill (Pavo Pavo). Old friends with rich history, the trio convened with ambiguous intention, easy chemistry, and open expectations. "Music sprung up between us with a surprising and collaborative ease," the band share. "It felt like a creative playground in contrast to the demands of our other projects. From the beginning, we made a conscious effort to foreground our intuitions and trust each other's first instincts." Coco released their stunning, self-titled debut in 2021 on First City Artists.

Championed by tastemakers at NPR, BBC, SiriusXM, and Spotify among others, Coco's music has been called a lot of things -- "gorgeous, warmly wistful" (Gorilla Vs. Bear), "unerringly intimate" (The Line of Best Fit), and "Beautifully enigmatic" (MOJO) -- but Lauren Laverne of BBC was the most concise in declaring ""Oh, it's just heaven."

What happens when this moody, ethereal threesome make a rock song? The answer is new single, "Rough Water," Coco's first offering since their full-length debut. The song jangles with the genius infectiousness Coco has made their custom, but opts for a messier arrangement and rambunctious edge. Friedman's vocals are guttural, bent and boisterous in a way that recalls The Go-Gos. Coco recorded "Rough Water" in Joshua Tree. "The open space out there really lends itself to loud music," they share. "It brings about a desire to shout into the emptiness."

"Rough Water" arrives ahead of Coco's performance at End of The Road Festival, a national tour supporting Kevin Morby this fall, and select headlining dates.
