CMC Mission Milonga Anniversary Celebration - Live Music Peña and Tango Dancing

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join us to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the monthly CMC Mission Milonga with a very special event! For the first time ever in the San Francisco Bay Area, guitarists Hernán Reinaudo (Buenos Aires) and Scott O'Day (Oakland) will host a live Peña. Tango singers throughout the Bay Area have been invited to take part in the first of ongoing public re-creations of the classic peñas of Spain and South America.

A peña is a meeting place of a group of musicians. In Buenos Aires, it is commonly associated with singers and guitarists coming together to share in a particular form of tango called tango canción, or tango song. Peñas are an exposition of tango music rarely heard at the milonga (Argentine Tango social dance gathering), but just as vital to its history. This evening will be dedicated to Roberto Traina (1931-2017), beloved Tango singer in the SF Bay Area.

GENERAL SCHEDULE:
8:00-9:00 pm: All level dance class with guest teachers Maxi Copello and Raquel Makow https://www.maxiraqueltango.com

9:00pm-12:00am: Milonga with DJ Asvin and danceable live music Peña with guests Hernán Reinaudo and Scott O’Day, guitars; and many singers!

$20 Adults / $15 Seniors and Students with ID for live music Milonga only. (Additional $5 for pre-Milonga tango class)

Enjoy dancing in the beautiful Victorian concert hall with smooth wooden floor and outdoor patio! Come to listen and watch or join in the dance. All ages are welcome!

Guests are encouraged to bring refreshments to celebrate! This is a fragrance-free event.
