Primus was founded in 1984 in El Sobrante, California by Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, who were later joined by drummer Jay Lane. Beginning as an underground act, the band slowly gained notoriety and critical acclaim after their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991) and Pork Soda (1993) both went Platinum. After the release of their record Antipop in 1999, the group disbanded but reformed as a touring entity in 2010 and began releasing music again soon after; Primus has released nine studio albums in total. Their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (Deluxe Edition) (2013), Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble (2015) and the track "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" have all earned Grammy nominations. The present lineup features Claypool on bass, Larry "Ler" LaLonde on guitar and John "Hoffer" Hoffman on drums. Primus have delighted audiences all over the world with their oddball lyricism and out-of-the-box approach to music for over 40 years, and continue to be dedicated to bringing their innovative discography on the road.
The Claypool Lennon Delirium
Boundary-busting rockers The Claypool Lennon Delirium got together in 2016 and wasted little time in taking the concept of a supergroup to far-out, uncharted territory. Featuring the mind-bending bass work of Primus frontman Les Claypool and the experimental indie rock licks of guitarist Sean Lennon, the duo is a match made in bizarro heaven. Claypool's outré vocals and absurdist lyrics are as wonderfully alien as it gets, and Lennon gives their songs an angelic touch with his vocal harmonies and jazzy riffs. The band's knockout performance at Bonnaroo 2016 blew minds and left fans dying to catch more of their spacey sonic explorations and funky grooves on their upcoming US tour. The Claypool Lennon Delirium combines the unique talents and eccentric sounds of its marquee members to brilliant effect in concert, and tickets buyers lucky enough to catch the group are in for a gloriously strange treat.
Les Claypool's Frog Brigade
After over 20 years, Les Claypool has regrouped his Fearless Flying Frog for the Summer of Green Tour. Long considered to be one of the animated bassist's most beloved bands, this incarnation of the ever-morphing act boasts longtime Frog Brigade members Skerik (saxophone) and Mike Dillon (percussion, vibraphone), as well as Sean Lennon (guitar), Harry Waters (keyboards) and Paulo Baldi (drums). The regrouping comes just over a decade after the Frog Brigade issued their lone album, Purple Onion, which Tom Waits heralded as one of his favorite records of all time.
Initially conceived during Claypool's short break from Primus in the early 2000s, the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade quickly became known as one of the bassist's most creative and improvisational outfits. Throughout their Summer of Green Tour, the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade will deliver a mix of original material and choice covers from throughout Claypool's rich catalog. The group will also perform Pink Floyd's 1977 psychedelic masterpiece, Animals--a staple on their original run--nightly.
