Primus was founded in 1984 in El Sobrante, California by Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, who were later joined by drummer Jay Lane. Beginning as an underground act, the band slowly gained notoriety and critical acclaim after their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991) and Pork Soda (1993) both went Platinum. After the release of their record Antipop in 1999, the group disbanded but reformed as a touring entity in 2010 and began releasing music again soon after; Primus has released nine studio albums in total. Their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (Deluxe Edition) (2013), Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble (2015) and the track "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" have all earned Grammy nominations. The present lineup features Claypool on bass, Larry "Ler" LaLonde on guitar and John "Hoffer" Hoffman on drums. Featuring the mind-bending bass work of Primus frontman Les Claypool and the experimental indie rock licks of guitarist Sean Lennon, the duo is a match made in bizarro heaven. Claypool's outré vocals and absurdist lyrics are as wonderfully alien as it gets, and Lennon gives their songs an angelic touch with his vocal harmonies and jazzy riffs. The band's knockout performance at Bonnaroo 2016 blew minds and left fans dying to catch more of their spacey sonic explorations and funky grooves on their upcoming US tour.
