Chris Schubert Student Recital

Singer/Guitar-player Christopher Schubert presents a series of original arrangements from the great American songbook, his own original music, and a few modern rock and pop classics. He will be joined by drummer Devon Ferrucci, and bassist Luke Clingerman.

Band Members and Instrumentation
Christopher Schubert - Guitar and Voice (Leader)
Luke Clingerman - Bass
Malcolm Schuster - Drums

Artist Bio
Bay Area producer and musician Christopher Schubert began playing guitar and writing music at the age of 15. He fell in love with traditional jazz, blues and swing music in his early twenties through the music of Charlie Christian, Andrew Birds Bowl of Fire, and C.W. Stone King, but he also has an ear for modern pop, indie and rock music.

Zach Gamble Student Recital

This concert is Zach Gamble's humble musical offering to his loved ones, ancestors, and community "without whom he could not have reached this milestone occasion." Creative improvised music is a means to accessing a collective liberation of the spirit, a collaboration between performers, ensemble, and audience. It is Gamble's hope that this evening will allow us to connect to the present moment in a shared celebration and reflection of the music and individuals who have nurtured our growth.

Gamble feels blessed to have had the opportunity to connect with and bring together this group of wonderful musicians at the CJC. The quartet will perform music from a variety of genres including Ethiopian Jazz, Sound Collage, and Rock, as well as original compositions by Gamble, all with the unique inflection of each of the quartet's musical voices propelled by creative improvisation.

Band Members and Instrumentation
Zach Gamble - Guitar, Voice, Electronics (Leader)
Adam Torres - Alto Saxophone
Jonny Kaminek - Bass
Sheldon Alexander - Drums

Artist Bio
Born and raised in the East Bay by a family of Filipino-Americans and UK-Descended Southerners, Zach Gamble draws influences from a range of sources as mixed as his identity. The nostalgic lyricism of American Folk melodies and harmony; cathartic surrender of heavier genres like Noise and Hardcore; imposing sentimentality and synesthetic textures of electronic Ambient and Experimental music; and spiritually uplifting rhythms and tonal diversity of non-Western music throughout our global community, merge with a formal training in improvisation and composition from the incredible faculty at the California Jazz Conservatory, informing a method of creative improvised music Gamble calls "Kulay" from the Tagalog word for 'color'. Music (organized sound, living networks of vibration, melody, rhythm, harmony, noise, and silence) offers a resonant bridge between the realms of Mind, Body, and Spirit. A union that reveals the chromatic spectra of our human condition. This is Gamble's pursuit.

Sheldon Alexander's Senior Recital

Band Members and Instrumentation
Sheldon Alexander - Drums (Leader)
Jonny Kaminek - Bass
Marlon Aldana - Percussion
Zach Gamble - Guitar
Adam Torres - Alto Saxophone
Will Shannon - Trombone

Artist Bio
Sheldon Alexander is a young budding drummer looking to make an imprint on the Bay Area music scene. As a performer, composer, and educator, Sheldon has gained the respect of his teachers and peers during his education at the California Jazz Conservatory. The CJC has been a place where he has continued his growth into an artist, passionate about the music of communication and improvisation. Sheldon has been a drummer since before his feet could touch the pedals, drawn to the instrument at his family-run church in Oakland, California. Since then he has always delved deeper into music, taking inspiration from artists like Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Marcus Gilmore, and Mike Mitchell.
