City Nature Challenge Bioblitz: Presidio Hills and Lobos Creek

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Bioblitz at Presidio Hills and Lobos Creek!
Join us for City Nature Challenge at Presidio Hills and Lobos Creek! Help us record and observe wildlife with the potential focus on specific species for interested individuals.
This bioblitz involves moderate to difficult off-trail hiking, as well as shrubbery and some uneven terrain. Hazards include potential exposure to poison oak, yellow jackets and stinging insects (though we will make every effort to avoid this!).
This and all of the other activities that make up City Nature Challenge 2019 at the Presidio are free and open to the public. All ages welcome! Some activities require registration. See the complete list of City Nature Challenge 2019 at the Presidio here >> https://www.presidio.gov/events/City-Nature-Challenge
What is the City Nature Challenge at the Presidio?
City Nature Challenge is your chance to team up with experienced naturalists from the park to take scientific adventures through some of the Presidio’s wildest places! Help us see and record the hundreds of types of wild plants and animals that still thrive here!
All of the observations recorded during this four-day monitoring event will help San Francisco record the most observations of nature during this four-day period and win the international City Nature Challenge. Last year, San Francisco bested over 60 cities worldwide to win the City Nature Challenge. Join us this year and help us bring another championship home to the Bay!
How will we record our observations?
We'll primarily use the iNaturalist app, a community-powered tool developed by the California Academy of Sciences for citizen scientists to upload and share observations in the field. We’ll also have some tablets available to borrow, if you’d prefer to try out iNaturalist on those. We’re encouraging everyone to team-up, share techniques, and find ways to make observations without electronic devices. Feel free to download the app on a smartphone and create an account to try things out before the event.
What else should I bring?
Dress in long pants, long sleeves, layered clothing, and sturdy close-toed shoes (no shorts or sandals). We also recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle. Bring rain gear, if it’s raining, and always be prepared to get dirty!
