Everyone is invited July 15 to celebrate San Francisco artist Michael Slack - known for his work with Nickelodeon, Aardman Animation, Disney and Fable Vision - as he launches his first solo show of ceramic sculptures, called "Objects for Future Discoveries," at the Compound Gallery in Emeryville.
The show, which will kick off during a 6-9 p.m. gallery reception, is a humorous contemplation on disposable culture and the valuation of fine art.
Slack, who is also known for his work on more than 30 books with companies like Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Chronicle Books, playfully explores the questions: In the distant future when cultural archaeologists are sifting through the detritus of contemporary culture what objects will they unearth? What stories will they attach to these objects? Will there be a point in the future where all mythology merges into a single universal mythology? If so, what would the personifications of this mythology look like?
