Chinese In Panama: Presentation by Berta Alicia Chen

We are pleased to welcome author Berta Alicia Chen to CHSA for a presentation titled “Chinese Presence in Panama.” Ms. Chen has published several Spanish-language books about Chinese history in Panama. Her presentation, given in English, will cover the main aspects of the Chinese immigration to Panama.
Tickets include admission to CHSA’s galleries & exhibits.
Seating is limited – please arrive at least 15 minutes early. Unclaimed seats will be release prior to the event start. 


Berta Alicia Chen P. (???), author, publisher, translator, manager, researcher and compiler, holds an M.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma and a B.A. in Business from the University of Panama. Ms. Chen is President of Management Development Corporation (MDC), a consulting, publishing, and translation firm.
She participates actively in several professional organizations, such as the Chinese-Panamanian Professionals Association (president in 1995), the Chinese Executive and Professional Women Association, the Zhongshan Jr Association, the Panamanian Association of Translators and Interpreters, and the Kiwanis Ladies. She was distinguished as Notable Citizen by the Civic and Moral Values National Commission and as “Distinguished Woman” by the Chinese Executive and Professional Women Association.
Her professional experience includes positions in the World Trade Center Panama, the Panama Trade Development Bureau, the Customs Service Bureau, the Administration of the Colon Free Zone, and the Santa Maria la Antigua University. Her experience in book publishing includes bilingual dictionaries (English – Spanish) about idioms, proverbs, legal terms, and binomials; compilations, stories, and books about the Chinese immigration and relations between Panama and China, the Tangram Chinese puzzle and the Panama Canal; and compilations about proverbs and sayings.
She is married to Roberto A. Hylton (translator and interpreter) and they live in Panama.
