Join The Chartres Lodging Group/No Reservations Giving and the San Francisco Education Fund for our annual Chip and a Chair Poker Tournament & Casino Party!
Enjoy music, appetizers and a full open bar at the W Hotel while you double down on the poker table (don’t worry, it’s is an amateur tournament) and enjoy side games like blackjack, craps and roulette.
Not into poker? Just bring your best dance moves. We’ll have a live DJ, photo booth and more to keep you entertained through the night. The event will be held in the W's Social Terrace which sports an outdoor area and fantastic views of the San Francisco skyline.
6:00 pm - Event begins. We’ll offer short poker lessons for anyone who wants to learn to play. We encourage you to give it a try! Side games will be available throughout the night and TVs will be showing the March Madness Semifinals.
7:00 pm - Poker tournament begins. You may buy back in as many times as you like in the first hour. After that, you’ll need to channel your amazing poker skills to stay in the game. We’ll also have plenty of VIPs in attendance. Knock one out of the tournament and win a prize.
10:00 pm - Top finishers will be able to choose which San Francisco Education Fund program or partner public school they would like to donate their “winnings” to and will also win a fabulous prize like a stay in a luxury hotel in Hawaii.

In 1982, Jack Strauss lost all of his chips in a bet during the final rounds of the World Series of Poker tournament play. As he got up to leave, he was lucky to find that he had left one chip beneath a napkin on the table. With that one chip, he went on to win the entire World Series. This change of fate gave way to the popular poker saying that all one needs to win the World Series is 'a chip and a chair.' Proceeds will be donated to the San Francisco Education Fund to help provide 'a chip and a chair' - a chance – for public school students to succeed.
